New Release For February!

Here are the books that we are looking to read in February:

February 5th
Fame, Fate, and the First Kiss
Blurb:
Lacey Barnes has dreamt of being in a movie for as long as she can remember. However, while her dream did include working alongside the hottest actor in Hollywood, it didn’t involve having to finish up her senior year of high school at the same time she was getting her big break. Although that is nothing compared to Donavan, the straight-laced student her father hires to tutor her, who is a full-on nightmare.

As Lacey struggles to juggle her burgeoning career, some on-set sabotage, and an off-screen romance with the unlikeliest of leading men, she quickly learns that sometimes the best stories happen when you go off script.

Blurb:
The sequel to the instant New York Times bestseller that was "made for fans of Victoria Aveyard and Sabaa Tahir" ( Bustle ), Lady Smoke is an epic new fantasy about a throne cruelly stolen and a girl who must fight to take it back for her people.

The Kaiser murdered Theodosia's mother, the Fire Queen, when Theo was only six. He took Theo's country and kept her prisoner, crowning her Ash Princess--a pet to toy with and humiliate for ten long years. That era has ended. The Kaiser thought his prisoner weak and defenseless. He didn't realize that a sharp mind is the deadliest weapon.

Theo no longer wears a crown of ashes. She has taken back her rightful title, and a hostage--Prinz Soren. But her people remain enslaved under the Kaiser's rule, and now she is thousands of miles away from them and her throne.

To get them back, she will need an army. Only, securing an army means she must trust her aunt, the dreaded pirate Dragonsbane. And according to Dragonsbane, an army can only be produced if Theo takes a husband. Something an Astrean Queen has never done.

Theo knows that freedom comes at a price, but she is determined to find a way to save her country without losing herself.

The Risk (Briar U Book 2) by [Kennedy, Elle]

Everyone says I’m a bad girl. They’re only partly right—I don’t let fear rule me, and I certainly don’t care what people think. But I draw the line at sleeping with the enemy. As the daughter of Briar’s head hockey coach, I’d be vilified if I hooked up with a player from a rival team.

And that’s who Jake Connelly is. Harvard’s star forward is arrogant, annoying, and too attractive for his own good. But fate is cruel—I require his help to secure a much-coveted internship, and the sexy jerk isn’t making it easy for me.

I need Connelly to be my fake boyfriend.

For every fake date…he wants a real one.

Which means this bad girl is in big trouble. Nothing good can come from sneaking around with Jake Connelly. My father would kill me, my friends will revolt, and my post-college career is on the line. But while it’s getting harder and harder to resist Jake’s oozing sex appeal and cocky grin, I refuse to fall for him.

That’s the one risk I’m not willing to take.

Four Dead Queens

A divided nation. Four Queens. A ruthless pickpocket. A noble messenger. And the murders that unite them.

Get in quick, get out quicker.

These are the words Keralie Corrington lives by as the preeminent dipper in the Concord, the central area uniting the four quadrants of Quadara. She steals under the guidance of her mentor Mackiel, who runs a black market selling their bounty to buyers desperate for what they can’t get in their own quarter. For in the nation of Quadara, each quarter is strictly divided from the other. Four queens rule together, one from each region:

Toria: the intellectual quarter that values education and ambition
Ludia: the pleasure quarter that values celebration, passion, and entertainment
Archia: the agricultural quarter that values simplicity and nature
Eonia: the futurist quarter that values technology, stoicism and harmonious community

When Keralie intercepts a comm disk coming from the House of Concord, what seems like a standard job goes horribly wrong. Upon watching the comm disks, Keralie sees all four queens murdered in four brutal ways. Hoping that discovering the intended recipient will reveal the culprit – information that is bound to be valuable bartering material with the palace – Keralie teams up with Varin Bollt, the Eonist messenger she stole from, to complete Varin’s original job and see where it takes them.

This Kiss Release day! Sorry that it is a day late.

BLURB:
When I’m dragged to a party by my best friends, I don’t plan on having a good time—and I’m not, until “he” finds me alone on the beach. I expect him to be a jerk with looks like him—but he’s not. He’s funny and sweet and we spend hours talking about nothing and everything.
Then he kisses me.
And I give myself to him—a familiar stranger with a name as fake as mine—then we say goodbye.
I never planned on seeing him again.
When Shell Beach Hall moves all their classes to Shell Beach Academy, I’m more than a little annoyed. The Academy is full of the snobs I avoid like the plague.
I can’t hide my surprise when I see him again. He can’t hide his derision, accusing me of knowing who he was and using him to gain popularity.
I realize I was wrong about him. He’s a jerk…and I want
nothing to do with him.
But he won’t leave me alone.
He taunts and teases me.
He’s arrogant and a jock who sleeps with any girl he wants. “They should all be so lucky”—his words, not mine.
I’m disgusted. This is who I gave my V-card to? Ugh.
I loathe everything he represents and I want to punch him in his pretty bullying face.
So why can’t I stop feeling his hands on my body or hear his sexy whispered words?
Why, oh why, did he have to kiss me?

Little White Lies (Debutantes #1) by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Little White Lies (Debutantes, #1)
Blurb:
"I'm not saying this is Sawyer's fault," the prim and proper one said delicately. "But."

Eighteen-year-old auto mechanic Sawyer Taft did not expect her estranged grandmother to show up at her apartment door and offer her a six-figure contract to participate in debutante season. And she definitely never imagined she would accept. But when she realizes that immersing herself in her grandmother's "society" might mean discovering the answer to the biggest mystery of her life-her father's identity-she signs on the dotted line and braces herself for a year of makeovers, big dresses, bigger egos, and a whole lot of bless your heart. The one thing she doesn't expect to find is friendship, but as she's drawn into a group of debutantes with scandalous, dangerous secrets of their own, Sawyer quickly discovers that her family isn't the only mainstay of high society with skeletons in their closet. There are people in her grandmother's glittering world who are not what they appear, and no one wants Sawyer poking her nose into the past. As she navigates the twisted relationships between her new friends and their powerful parents, Sawyer's search for the truth about her own origins is just the beginning.

Set in the world of debutante balls, grand estates and rolling green hills, Little White Lies combines a charming setting, a classic fish-out-of-water story, and the sort of layered mystery only author Jennifer Lynn Barnes can pull off.

My thoughts:
This book was very interesting. At first, I thought that I might not like it but it was actually really funny. When you read what the book is going to be about you don't realize how much of a mystery the book is going to be. I have read mysteries before but this one is was funny, light, but did not take away from the actual mystery in the story. The characters were very well written and enjoyable to read. I can't wait to read the next one.

Naz & Roz (Cross + Catherine #5) by Bethany-Kris

41557023
Blurb:
The genius and the prodigy ...

Nazio “Naz” Donati is brilliant, sinful, and criminal. A genius from the moment he was born, and a man who's still trying to learn how to navigate and balance this thing called life. He certainly wasn't expecting love to practically fall right into his hands, never mind for love to take the form of his best friend's little sister.

Rosalynn ”Roz” Puzza is talented, beautiful, and driven. A pianist prodigy from the second they sat her at a piano as a little girl, and a young woman who isn't sure if she's truly earned her spot on the stage. She wasn't expecting a man like him to take her focus and change her muse, never mind to distract her from the thing she thought she wanted the most.

Sometimes, first love is intense.
All-consuming.
Crazy.
And you just have to ride it out.

When brilliance and talent crash together, it can make magic.

Naz & Roz is a contemporary romance that is meant to be read as an add-on to the Cross + Catherine series, and is not intended to be read as a standalone.

My thoughts:
Bethany Kirs is an amazing writer.  Her books give you all of the feels. I was waiting for this story.   I like how she makes you feel like you are in the book while you are reading. If you have not read her books yet, I highly recommend them. Naz reminds me of his dad so much in this book. I think that this couple works the best together. They are a great balance. They show us that no matter the distance, relationships can work. They are honestly couple goals. This a must read.

Maldives & Mistletoe (The Chicago War #5) by Bethany-Kris

42868993
Blurb:
When the Maldives meet the mistletoe, it's sure to be a beautiful Christmas ...

Business in the Maldives brings the Chicago Outfit's boss away for the holidays, but why not bring everyone else along for the ride, too? Wives, kids ... the whole bunch.

Nothing can go wrong, right?

Join the original crew from The Chicago War one more time as they celebrate Christmas in the Maldives, tinsel and mistletoe included. Meet the babies, and catch up with everything that's happened since the last time we were with them.

For once, no one is spilling blood.

The war has already been won.

Featuring all the original couples, Maldives & Mistletoe is a 20k Chicago War Christmas Novella meant for fans of the series, and is not intended to be read as a standalone novel.
My thoughts:
This was a cute short story. This story takes place over Christmas It was also a great way to introduce and wrap up a generation. We get to see the characters that we love from the Chicago series with families of their own. this will also introduce us to the upcoming series as well. I wish there was more but overall a great way to wrap up the series.

In the Nyx of Time (godhunter 24) by Amy Sumida

41053421
Blurb:
At the battle for Dvārakā, Nyx and her friends were defeated, and now, she wants revenge. She's convinced a god of time to help her, and they intend to change the past. As Nyx's nefarious plan unfolds, the Godhunter is tossed through time with only her instincts and a couple of sassy Consciousnesses to guide her. Will it be enough to get her back to her proper present, or will this time belong to Nyx?
My thoughts:
This book was interesting. I am not sure how I feel about this one. I am disappointed in regarding some of the outcomes. The premise of this book is that someone is changing time and Vivian has to find her way back to the original timeline. Do to all of the changes, Vivian is forced to live many different outcomes and with different lovers. I do not like her with certain lovers. I feel that the series is starting to drag out a bit. Overall not my favorite but it was decent.

Danger lurks in Orïsha, where snow leoponaires prowl and vengeful spirits wait in the waters. Yet the greatest danger may be Zélie herself as she struggles to control her powers and her growing feelings for an enemy.

My thoughts:
This book was amazing. I loved all aspects of this book. I like that brought a new culture to science fiction that we don't get to see very often. The author made you feel like you were inside the book with the character. You will fall in love with the characters. The pace was fast moving and never a dull moment. I can not wait till the next one.

The Dead must stay buried.

Karthia is nothing like it used to be. The kingdom's borders are open for the first time in nearly three hundred years, and raising the dead has been outlawed. Odessa is determined to explore the world beyond Karthia's waters, hoping to heal a heart broken in more ways than she can count. But with Meredy joining the ocean voyage, vanquishing her sorrow will be a difficult task.

Despite the daily reminder of the history they share, Odessa and Meredy are fascinated when their journey takes them to a land where the Dead rule the night and dragons roam the streets. Odessa can't help being mesmerized by the new magic--and by the girl at her side. But just as she and Meredy are beginning to explore the new world, a terrifying development in Karthia summons them home at once.

Growing political unrest on top of threats from foreign invaders means Odessa and Meredy are thrust back into the lives they tried to leave behind while specters from their past haunt their tenuous relationship. Gathering a force big enough to ward off enemies seems impossible, until one of Queen Valoria's mages creates a weapon that could make them invincible. As danger continues to mount inside the palace, Odessa fears that without the Dead, even the greatest invention won't be enough to save their fates.

In this enthralling, heartrending sequel to Reign of the Fallen, Odessa faces the fight of her life as the boundaries between the Dead and the living are challenged in a way more gruesome than ever before.
